Vehicle liability

Liability limits and insurance coverage are vehicle-specific and confirmed in your rental agreement. The renter's liability for the vehicle itself and its vehicle parts is limited to the vehicle-specific maximum liability amount stated on the front page of the individual rental agreement, per incident. There is no universal fixed deductible or liability amount.

Insurance-covered damage

Liability requires evidence of damage, the renter's responsibility and causation. Insurance-covered damage may have vehicle-specific customer responsibility amounts by damage type, stated in the individual agreement. They are liability caps, not automatic fixed charges. Insurance compensation and other recoveries are deducted; the same cost is not charged twice. A minor driving error or denial of insurance coverage does not by itself remove the cap; the full terms' express exceptions and mandatory law apply.

Separate charges

The vehicle-specific cap includes necessary and reasonable investigation, assessment, repair and damage-related towing or transfer under section 7 of the full terms, subject to its stated exceptions. Other charges, including unpaid rent, fines, keys, accessories, fuel, cleaning and late return, depend on their contractual basis and applicable limits. They are not automatically outside the cap.

Report without delay

Faults, damage, warning lights, lost keys, thefts, fines and other exceptional events must be reported to Kaltio Rent without delay.

Repairs and towing

The renter may not repair the vehicle, buy parts, order towing at Kaltio Rent's expense or make changes to the vehicle without prior permission, except for necessary emergency measures to prevent further damage or ensure road safety.

Technical fault

If a technical fault attributable to Kaltio Rent makes the vehicle unusable, Kaltio Rent is responsible for investigating and repairing the fault. A technical fault attributable to Kaltio Rent must actually prevent use. Count only time within the relevant prepaid rental/payment period, from unusability until the vehicle is usable again. Merge overlapping or adjacent records of the same outage. Round each genuinely separate outage up to whole 24-hour periods (1–24 hours = 1 day; 25 hours = 2); the car must have been usable between separate outages. Zero-duration intervals earn no refund. Add all refund days before rounding the final monetary amount to cents, with no intermediate rounding or hourly refund. The monthly daily basis is the agreed monthly rent including monthly driver fees divided by 30: EUR 300/30, EUR 350/30 or EUR 400/30 at normal prices. Daily rent uses the agreed daily price; weekly rent uses the agreed weekly price divided by 7. Separately agreed rent replaces the normal rate; cross-border and other separate service fees are not automatically included. Unusability throughout the entire prepaid rental/payment period gives a full refund of that period's prepaid rent, including monthly driver fees and 28-, 29-, 30- or 31-day monthly periods. Total contractual rent refunds cannot exceed rent prepaid for that period. Mandatory statutory rights remain unaffected. A replacement vehicle is not guaranteed. Additional expenses are assessed under the full terms and applicable law; Kaltio remains responsible for necessary, reasonable and verifiable additional costs where legally recoverable. Mandatory rights remain unaffected.

Missing fuel

Missing fuel is charged at €3 / litre plus a €50 refuelling service fee. Additional charges apply only to exceptional, necessary, actual and reasonable costs exceeding ordinary refuelling costs. The same cost must not be charged twice.

Smoking

Smoking is prohibited and animal transport requires prior written permission. A single EUR 250 incident-based special handling charge applies only where a documented incident creates a substantial need beyond ordinary cleaning. It covers handling and cleaning of that incident up to EUR 250; only necessary, actual, reasonable and evidenced costs above that amount may be added. Ordinary dirt or minor extra cleaning incurs only actual necessary reasonable evidenced additional costs, not the fixed charge. No overlapping incident charges or duplicate recovery are allowed; mandatory law applies.

Animals without permission

Unauthorised animal transport follows the same special handling rule above. Written permission avoids the unauthorised-animal charge; animal damage is assessed under sections 4 and 7, without duplicate cleaning charges.

Special cleaning

Exceptional soiling follows the same single-incident special handling rule above. Ordinary dirt or minor additional cleaning does not trigger the fixed EUR 250 charge.

Late return

A delay of 30 minutes or less has no late return charge. After that, the charge is EUR 10 per started chargeable hour from the end of the grace period, capped at EUR 80 for the first 24 hours from the agreed return time. Beyond 24 hours, an additional EUR 80 applies per subsequent started 24-hour period, measured from the original return time. A 90-minute delay costs EUR 10; 24 hours plus 1 minute costs EUR 160. Other costs are subject to the full terms, evidence, reasonableness and no duplicate recovery.

Keys and accessories

Where the renter is responsible, independent loss, breakage or failure to return a key or separate accessory may incur justified, actual, reasonable and verifiable costs. Damage to a vehicle part or costs of the same ordinary damage incident remain subject to the applicable vehicle-specific cap; calling them key or accessory costs cannot bypass it.

Fines and similar charges

The renter is responsible for fines, parking charges, road tolls and similar charges caused during the rental.
