03 / The road north
Don’t treat the drive as dead time.
The road from Ivalo to Inari is part of the reason to go. It winds through changing northern scenery, with water, forest and open views appearing repeatedly along the way. On a clear day, give yourself enough time not to rush it.

Start at Siida
Understand where you are.
If you spend a season in Northern Lapland, Siida is worth visiting at least once. It gives context to the land, history and Sámi culture around you instead of leaving them as scenery in the background.

Walk to Jäniskoski
Leave the village without going far.
Follow Juutua away from the village and let the road noise disappear. Old pines, river scenery, a suspension bridge and Jäniskoski make this feel like a proper nature stop without committing to a wilderness expedition.

When you have more time
Walk to Pielpajärvi.
When you have a proper half day and the conditions are right, Pielpajärvi is the more committed version of an Inari walk. Go for the old forest and the wilderness church — and treat the place as cultural heritage, not as a backdrop.

Here’s how we’d use it.
Start at Siida. Give it enough time that you are not just walking through the exhibitions.
Eat nearby, then follow Juutua toward Jäniskoski if the weather and conditions make sense.
If you booked dinner at Aanaar, don’t rush north or south immediately afterwards. Let dinner be the final part of the trip.
Inari works best when you stop treating it as somewhere between Ivalo and Utsjoki.
